Why Your Anxiety Isn’t a Flaw. It’s a Signal
If you’ve ever asked yourself, “What’s wrong with me?” ... this one’s for you.
I can’t tell you how many clients come to me believing their anxiety is a flaw. Like it’s a personal defect they need to fix or hide.
Let me just say this clearly:
Your anxiety is not broken.
You are not broken.
Anxiety is your body’s way of saying, “Hey, something’s off. Can we please slow down and listen?”
Most of us have never been taught how to do that. We’ve learned to numb it, fight it, judge it, or bury it under productivity. But the truth is, anxiety is a signal, not a shortcoming. And when you learn to work with it instead of against it, everything starts to shift.
What Anxiety Is Actually Trying to Tell You
Here’s the truth. Anxiety is rooted in protection. Your nervous system is doing its best to keep you safe based on what it’s learned from your past experiences. It’s constantly scanning for danger, not just physical, but emotional too.
That tight chest feeling before a big meeting?
That spiraling “what if” loop at night?
That sudden jolt when someone raises their voice?
All of that is your body saying, “I don’t feel safe right now.” And instead of shaming it, we can learn to meet it with curiosity.
3 Powerful Questions to Ask When Anxiety Shows Up
Next time anxiety rolls in, pause and ask:
What is my body trying to protect me from right now?
Is there a younger version of me who needed safety and didn’t get it?
What would it feel like to offer myself compassion instead of criticism?
This isn’t about overthinking your anxiety. It’s about reconnecting with it.
Real Talk: You’re Allowed to Feel It
You don’t have to get rid of anxiety to live a good life. You just need to build a better relationship with it.
One where your body knows it’s safe.
One where your thoughts don’t run the show.
One where peace isn’t some far-off destination. It’s something you practice right here, right now.
Let’s Bring It Home
If this post resonates, I want you to know this:
You are not alone
There’s nothing wrong with your brain or your body
You can learn to feel safe again without hustling harder or pretending you're fine
This is the work I do every day with my clients. It’s not magic. It’s practice. And it starts with learning how to listen to your anxiety instead of fearing it.
